Google Launches Googlebook AI-Native Laptop Line

Google has officially unveiled Googlebook, a new laptop line built from the ground up for artificial intelligence. Positioned somewhere between the now-discontinued Pixelbook line and mainstream Chromebooks, Googlebook represents Google’s clearest vision yet for what “AI-native computing” looks like.

The marquee feature is “Magic Pointer” — an AI-powered cursor that lets users select anything on screen and take action via voice or text. Need to compare concert dates, create a band poster, or research a topic? Point, ask, and Gemini handles the rest, without switching apps or copy-pasting.

The “Create My Widget” feature is equally compelling: users describe what they want in natural language, and the system generates a live desktop widget. For example, “Create a live tracker for my Iceland trip” produces an interactive panel with flight, accommodation, and dining info.

Deep Android integration is another pillar. “Cast My Apps” lets users run phone apps directly on the laptop without installation, while “Quick Access” surfaces phone files as if they were local. This tight ecosystem play mirrors Apple’s continuity features but with Gemini as the connective tissue.

On the hardware side, Googlebook launches with partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, spanning multiple form factors. The devices feature dedicated Google and fingerprint keys on the keyboard.

Set to ship Fall 2026, Googlebook signals a strategic shift: AI is no longer a feature layered on top of an OS — it becomes the OS itself. For anyone tracking how AI will reshape personal computing, this is the most concrete statement yet from a major platform company.
